This week let’s welcome this cucumber curry( southekai hasi gojju) !!!
Vegetables being 100% of my cooking, I love to declare cucumber as the most non-controversial one in my family so far. As a salad, as a main course side dish or as a raita it’s always so humble and none of us have any dislike towards it. Which is why you will find cucumber lying in the vegetable section of my refrigerator almost always. Irrespective of the season, summer or winter, cucumber is best part of my kitchen life. Why can’t it? Do you want me to list the reasons?

- It’s so easy to cook the watery-veggie, like it cooks to perfection within few minutes.
- In most recipes, it goes raw. Cucumber in raw form is so tasty and healthy too.
- It can be used in breakfast recipes like cucumber rava idli or cucumber dosa. And in lunch recipes like thalipeeth too, cucumber tastes very very scrumptious.
Ok, fine. Now, in this cucumber curry, the best part is time taken is very less. Just 15 minutes. Which is almost nil isn’t it guys. When a secondary curry is needed as almost instantly then you can choose “southekai hasi gojju”. Pairs extraordinarily good with hot, steaming rice. And I end up eating little more than ever. Seriously.
Cucumber Curry | Southekai Hasi Gojju Recipe
Ingredients
- 2 nos. Cucumber (medium sized)
- 1/2 cup Coconut
- 2 nos. Green chillies
- 3 tsp Sesame seeds
- 1 tsp Salt
- 1/2 cup Yogurt
To temper
- 2 tsp Cooking oil
- 1/2 tsp Mustard seeds
- 1/2 tsp Black gram lentils
- Few Curry leaves
Instructions
- Chop the cucumber in to tiny pieces and keep aside. Next heat a pan and add all the tempering ingredients along with a tsp of sesame seeds. When it sizzles, include chopped cucumber and saute for 3 minutes or till it cooks.
- Transfer the sauteed cucumber in to a vessel and let it cool down. Next in a mixer, add coconut, green chillies and 2 tsp of sesame seeds.
- With little water, grind it to fine puree. Add this puree to sauteed cucumber. Include yogurt and salt too.
- Mix everything together. This is ready to serve.
- Scrumptious cucumber curry (southekai hasi gojju) is ready in 15 minutes.
Notes
- Cucumber doesn't need water to cook, so sauteing for 5 minutes is enough to cook them. Do not overcook.
- Always use fresh yogurt to make this curry.
