This breakfast wonder is a healthy combination of hyacinth beans or field beans, fresh coconut bites and rice rava. The new obsession in this season is use of hyacinth beans in most recipes. Yes, when hyacinth beans are abundant in the market I try to make most use of it. Like, searching deep in my recipe archives to find an appropriate and best possible food which can include these beans to become super delicious than before. The hunt was ON which landed me at rice rava dumpling, the easiest dumpling recipe of my blog. My mind switched over to the dumpling that has bites of truly amazing beans along with crunchy, sweet coconut pieces. My mouth was tasting it just there and then. It’s so incredible and delicious. This is the way  hyacinth beans dumpling has come to my food life.

These beans have amazing characteristic like they own the recipe in which they are present. They make the recipe look pretty too while being delicious. I paired the dumpling with spicy coconut chutney and my hungry self  satisfied with gratitude.

hyacinth beans dumpling

You can have some points noted here which helps you to get the hyacinth beans dumpling without any flaws.

  • The ratio  of rice rava to water is 1:2. You should cook the rice rava in double the quantity of water, so that it really turns soft and moist. Less water can make the dumpling hard and dry, where as more water can turn it mushy.
  • Though I have mentioned the quantity of beans as 1/2 cup in the recipe, you can raise it up to 1 cup. More beans makes the dumpling quite delicious.
  • I am spice minimalist. I have used only two green chillies for kids sake. You can decide on your spice-factor and use the chillies accordingly.

I can see you heading towards kitchen. Happy cooking.

  • Cooking oil- 1 tsp
  • Mustard seeds- 1/2 tsp
  • Split black gram lentils- 1/2 tsp
  • Split chickpea lentils- 1/2 tsp

Instructions

Preparation

  • Crush ginger and green chillies coarsely and keep it aside.

Method

  • Heat oil in a pan, as it heats up add mustard seeds followed by lentils and curry leaves. Let the mustard seeds splutter, then add hycinth beans and coconut pieces.

  • When the rice rava mix is still warm, pinch a portion of dough and make oval shaped ball out of it. Repeat the process and arrange these dumpling balls in idli stand. Steam cook them in pressure or steamer for about 15 minutes.
  • Easy and healthy hyacinth beans dumplings are ready to serve as breakfast. Serve it with any chutney and sambar.

Notes

  • Use hycinth beans and coconut bites generously. Biting them in between is an absolute bliss.
  • Top it up with few more green chillies for a spicy dumpling breakfast.
  • Pair these dumplings with some spicy chutney and sambar for nice taste.
  • You can use either steamer or pressure cooker to steam the dumplings.
  • Rice rava to water ratio is 1:2.
