Badam Milk | Badami Haalu Recipe

Jump to Recipe Print Recipe

It’s that time of the year when monsoon clouds begin overshadowing the bright SUN, opening up heaven doors to gush the downpour to the heated earth giving it new lease of life. This weather transformation leaves every soul a sigh of relief including plants and trees. When mother earth is blessed with abundance of water, it’s greens and only greens that we can see everywhere. This is how I visualize my home town right now sitting in the closed A.C room here in U.A.E. Inline with weather I thought of some hot beverage to appear in this space and it’s Badam milk 🙂

When I think of hot beverages to offer to anybody, it’s the badam milk that comes to mind after tea, coffee and kashaya. Most of the times it’s the badam milk powder which is used to whip up the same but the REAL almond powder’s presence in the product is quite uncertain. I am using the actual almond in this beverage which assures the goodness of nut with milk.

Badam Milk

I have soaked, peeled and ground the almonds to make them appropriate to blend with milk. Also kids don’t like sipping a drink which has bites of almonds in it. But you have that option. Finely chop the almonds (also include pistachios if you like) and sprinkle over the badam milk that tastes wonderfully awesome.

In the feel-good weather of India, sipping this badam milk, watching RAIN and feeling the cool breeze is like heaven on earth. Enjoy rain and Enjoy the beverage.

  • Almonds- 1/4 cup or 15-20 nos.
  • Milk- 3 cups
  • Saffron- Few strands
  • Sugar- 4 tsp
  • Cardamom powder- A pinch

Instructions

  • Soak almonds in enough water for about 2 to 3 hours. Peel the skin off and soak saffron strands in a teaspoon of milk. Keep this ready before you start.

Method

  • Take the peeled almonds in a mixer and grind them with little milk to fine puree.
  • Bring the milk to boil, as it boils add the almond puree and sugar. Stir well and continue boiling for a minute. Then switch off.
  • Finally add saffron soaked milk, cardamom powder and serve hot or chilled. Either way it tastes awesome.

Notes

  • You can top the milk with chopped almonds and pistachios if you like bites while sipping.
  • Adjust sugar as per your taste buds.
  • Saffron is optional that gives nice color if added. You can skip it too.
