Mustard seeds and coconut ground to form gravy with variety of vegetables called Saasmi of that vegetable. “Saasmi” refers to mustard seeds in Tulu language, as it is the primary ingredient used in this curry it gets the name saasmi. I have posted number of Saasmi recipes like cucumber saasmi, bende saasmi, red amaranth leaves saasmi. Today I will brief about raw mango saasmi/Kukku saasmi. This curry tastes tangy and spicy but goes very very well with hot rice. Give it a try and let me know.
Raw mango Saasmi/Kukku Saasmi Recipe
Ingredients
- Raw mango- 1 medium sized
- Saasmi- 1 tbsp
- Salt- 3/4 tbsp
- Green chillies- 2 to 3 nos.
- Grated coconut- 2 fistful
Seasoning ingredients
- Cooking oil- 1 tbsp
- Mustard seeds- 1/2 tbsp
- Urad dal/Split black gram- 1/2 tbsp
- Curry leaves- few
- Red chilly- 1 no.
Instructions
Method
- Chop mango in to medium sized pieces. Grind mango pieces, mustard seeds, green chillies, grated coconut and salt coarsely adding minimum water.
- Transfer this to a bowl, saasmi is almost ready.
- Now heat seasoning pan adding oil, mustard seeds, urad dal, broken red chilly and curry leaves. When mustard seeds splutter, add this to the raw mango saasmi/Kukku saasmi. Serve it with hot
- rice.
Note:
- You can replace green chilly by red chilly.
- If mango tastes too tangy, then add only half of mango. Otherwise mango saasmi may become too sour.
