Greens like palak has lot of calcium and it’s essential for a nursing mother. It can be stir fried and fed to mothers for lunch and dinner. It’s literally called “Soppu Palya” in Kannada. The soppu palya is very simple stir fry with minimum spices or absolutely ‘No’ spice actually. It’s served as accompaniment with rice-rasam combo. The onions are sauteed in ghee and greens are added to it which is then seasoned with salt and little pepper. That’s the recipe in a line.
But as a postpartum recipe this “soppu palya” must be part of all mothers as woman loses lot of blood during childbirth. This palak stir fry acts as IRON supplement in a natural way. Instead of palak leaves, other greens like dill leaves or fenugreek leaves can also be used in the same way. When I was a nursing mother, this was part of my lunch and dinner both. As the greens have lots of fiber, it helps the mothers to combat constipation too. Check out the goodness of health.
