Coconut Chutney Powder | Coconut Chutney Pudi

Coconut chutney powder is an easy side dish which you can stock for a month. It pairs very well with idli and dosa.

Ingredients

  • 3 tsp Oil
  • 1 tsp Mustard seeds
  • 2 tbsp Split black gram (urad dal)
  • 5 nos. Red chillies
  • 1 Cup Fresh coconut grated
  • 1/4 tsp Asafoetida (hing)

Instructions

  • Heat a pan adding mustard seeds, split black gram, red chillies and roast constantly in medium flame. The lentils turn slightly brown, then transfer and let it cool.

  • Add grated coconut to the same pan and roast till it becomes moisture free. It may take few minutes to get dry and turn little brown. Switch off once done.

  • Take initially roasted ingredients in a mixer. Add tamarind, salt and powder coarsely.

  • Include roasted coconut and asafoetida to the same mixer and whir it again.

  • Coconut chutney powder is ready to serve. It pairs well with idli and dosa as side dish.

Notes

  • Roast the spices in medium flame and ensure it's not burnt.
  • After roasting the coconut should be moisture free and dry.
  • Coconut chutney powder tastes good when coarsely powdered.
