Heat seasoning pan and add oil, mustard seeds, urad dal, red chilly, curry leaves to it. When mustard seeds splutter and urad dal changes in color switch off the flame. Keep it aside.
Grind coriander seeds, cumin seeds and red chillies coarsely in a mixer.
Now take a big mixing bowl with grated coconut, ground masala from step 2, sugar, salt, seasoning prepared above and coriander leaves. Mix it well using your hands. Now the avalakki upkari mix is ready.
Add avalakki/thin flakes to the upkari mix and blend it well again with your hands. Now avalakki upkari is ready. Avalakki absorbs the flavors, spices and becomes soft. So serve it after 15 minutes.
It is very good snack for evening tea time. It can be served for breakfast along with soji upama/uppittu.
