Hyacinth Beans Dumpling | Avarekalu Kadubu

Ingredients

  • Rice rava Akki tari- 1 cup
  • Hycinth beans 1/2 cup
  • Coriander leaves- 1/3 cup
  • Fresh coconut pieces- 1/2 cup
  • Green chillies- 2 nos.
  • Ginger- 2" pieces
  • Salt- 3/4 tsp

To temper

  • Cooking oil- 1 tsp
  • Mustard seeds- 1/2 tsp
  • Split black gram lentils- 1/2 tsp
  • Split chickpea lentils- 1/2 tsp
  • Curry leaves- Few

Instructions

Preparation

  • Crush ginger and green chillies coarsely and keep it aside.

Method

  • Heat oil in a pan, as it heats up add mustard seeds followed by lentils and curry leaves. Let the mustard seeds splutter, then add hycinth beans and coconut pieces.
  • Saute the beans for few minutes. Next add the ginger-chilly paste and 2 cups of water.
  • As the water starts boiling throw in salt and coriander leaves. Stirring continuously, add rice rava too.
  • Let it cook for few minutes. The rava absorbs water completely and comes together. Switch off the flame now.
  • When the rice rava mix is still warm, pinch a portion of dough and make oval shaped ball out of it. Repeat the process and arrange these dumpling balls in idli stand. Steam cook them in pressure or steamer for about 15 minutes.
  • Easy and healthy hyacinth beans dumplings are ready to serve as breakfast. Serve it with any chutney and sambar.

Notes

  • Use hycinth beans and coconut bites generously. Biting them in between is an absolute bliss.
  • Top it up with few more green chillies for a spicy dumpling breakfast.
  • Pair these dumplings with some spicy chutney and sambar for nice taste.
  • You can use either steamer or pressure cooker to steam the dumplings.
  • Rice rava to water ratio is 1:2.
