Peel off the onion and chop it finely. Slit green chillies in to two. Mix 1/4 of water to the gram flour and prepare limp-less paste.
Method
Heat a pan adding all the seasoning ingredients in the order mentioned, as the mustard seeds crackle add chopped onion, green chillies and ginger. Saute till onion turns translucent. Next add 1/2 cup of water and gram flour paste prepared in above step.
Mix well. As it thickens, add salt and buttermilk too. Let it cook for few minutes till the raw smell disappears completely. Adjust water as per the desired consistency. Switch off once done.
Easy rice side dish gram flour curry is ready to serve with steamed rice.
Notes
You can make variations by adding tomatoes and you can also add some turmeric powder for nice color.
The buttermilk gives nice tangy taste to the curry, do not skip it.
If you don't have buttermilk, you can whisk some curds and use.
