Horse gram Chutney | Horsegram Chutney Recipe

Ingredients

  • Horse gram/huruli kalu- 1 bowl
  • Fresh grated coconut- 1 bowl
  • Red chilly byadagi - 1 or 2
  • Urad dal/Split black gram- 1 tsp
  • Curry leaves- Few
  • Salt - 3/4 tsp
  • Tamarind- one small gooseberry size
  • Oil- 2 tsp

Seasoning ingredients

  • Mustard seeds- 1 tsp
  • Urad dal- 1/2 tsp
  • Red chilly - 1
  • Oil- 1 tsp

Instructions

Method

  • In a pan add a tea spoon of oil, urad dal/split black gram, red chilly and fry them in medium heat. Once the urad dal changes color add horse gram and fry them till the horse grams puff up.
  • In a mixer, blend the fried items of step 1 along with grated coconut, tamarind, salt and water. It should be ground coarsely not to a fine paste.
  • In a seasoning pan add oil, mustard seeds, urad dal and red chilly. When mustard seeds splutter add it to the chutney. Tampering is optional for this chutney.
  • Horse gram chutney is ready to serve.
